In his 1988 directorial debut, Mike Figgis (“Leaving Las Vegas,” “Internal Affairs”) spins a tale of a ruthless American businessman who tries to buy up an entire block of businesses in an economically depressed Tyneside, England. But a janitor, who works in a jazz-club, and his waitress girlfriend send his plans spectacularly awry. Melanie Griffith, Tommy Lee Jones, Sting and Sean Bean star.
