South Solitary
Miranda Otto (Eowyn in “The Lord of the Rings”) plays a 35-year-old single woman who, in 1928, travels to the remote island of South Solitary with her uncle. He is to become the head keeper of the lighthouse, and she his assistant. Destined to be an old maid, she is hyper aware of two good looking men on staff. The friendly, good-natured one is married; the other, a sullen misanthrope is, like her, alone. The relationships among the island’s habitats is delicately captured by director Shirley Barrett (the wondrous “Love Serenade”). This is a U.S. premiere.
